Gun control and capital punishment This semester I have learned plenty of new topics in the field of criminal justice, but I got to say the topics that stand out to me are gun control and capital punishment and I couldn’t just pick one. They stand out to me because without even having to research about the topics, I already have something to say about them and I’ll write my personal opinions about each one of them. Specially gun control because that’s the one topic I feel strongest about. First I write about the topic that I feel the strongest about, which is gun control. As we all know gun control simply means laws or policies that are created in order to stop the use, manufacture and sale of guns. The Second Amendment to the Constitution Says that this gives us the right to carry a weapon for self-defense and protection of our families. In 2007 according to the national institute of justice said that at least 45 percent of people living in the United States own a weapon and have it at home. Also those around 294 guns were in circulation in the United States and that 67 percent of them used them for self defense and the protection of their families, others just used it for sport like hunting and target shooting. In 1968 efforts were made by making a gun control act that gave police officers and any other type of law enforcement more power to regulate the use of firearms to prevent crime.
